Olympic High Jump champion Stefan Holm, 28,  won one of Sweden's top sports awards earlier today, honoured with the “Bragdguld" medal which is given annually by Svenska Dagbladet, one of Sweden's biggest newspapers.

The award committee said Holm's performance at the Olympics went “from despair to success, a fairy tale moment in Swedish sports history.”

Holm, who has also won the World Indoor title three-times and finished second in the 2003 outdoor World Championships, was undefeated throughout the 2004 campaign.

Last year, the award went to Heptathlete Carolina Klüft for her gold medals in the indoor and outdoor World Championships. Klüft also won gold in this year's Olympics.

Other past winners of the award include golfer Annika Sorenstam and ice hockey star Peter Forsberg of the Colorado Avalanche.
