Slovak Hammer Thrower Martina Hrasnova improved her national record from last year by 8cm to record a huge new world season lead of 76.90m at Tirnavia on 16 May.

Her series was: 75.16 (already a world lead in first throw) – 72.32 – 75.78 – 76.90 – foul – foul.

“I had very good feeling already after my first throw,” said Hrasnova. I was hoping to improve my season best to 73 level. I was not thinking about the (national) record. But I must admit this was my first competition this year where I was fully healthy without pain."

"I knew I could achieve new record because of my training results, but I did not expect that it would happen so soon….the last two fouls were very long so I must be satisfied.”

Hrasnova will next compete in Halle at the throwing meet on 23 May, and then for the Spartak Dubnica club at European Champion Clubs Cup B-Group on 31 May.

Also in Tirnavia, Libor Charfreitag also improved his season’s best in the men’s Hammer Throw to 78.26m in what is his home city, while Peter Horak cleared 2.20m in the High Jump.
