The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 38th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, which take place in the Polish city on 28 March, are currently preparing for the latest General and a Technical site visit by the IAAF which will take place next week between 25 and 28 January.

The IAAF delegation will be headed by Senior Vice-President  Sergey Bubka but he and the rest of the IAAF team are going to have to wrap-up warm and use their imagination a bit! Currently the World Championship course is covered by a huge blanket of snow. The layer which covers the whole area of the course in Myslecinek Park is about 40-50cm deep, and during the next few days the expected temperature is expected to drop to minus 20 degrees at night!

Still, all plans are well underway to host a successful championship and the LOC have been very proactive in their promotion of the event and at last month’s European Cross Country Championships in Dublin established contact with Sonia O'Sullivan informing her about preparations for the World XC. The Irish woman was the 1998 double World XC champion (she won both the long race and the now-discontinued short course race) and is now Australian team manager.

In Dublin, Krzysztof Wolsztynski, the Vice-president of the Polish Athletics Federation (PZLA) and a team from Bydgoszcz also made use of their visit to look at the facilities and organisation of the European championships, and also handed out a few hundred of leaflets to team leaders and coaches to keep them informed about Bydgoszcz 2010.
