Following logistical discussions over the past year, the IAAF MSD, in cooperation with the European Athletic Association, has approved that the Athletic Federation of Iceland may implement the IAAF CECS Level I and CECS Level II as their national coaches education programme. The following announcement was made by the Athletic Federation of Iceland on 28th May 2009.
An Announcement: Regarding an agreement between the Reykjavik University and the Athletic Federation of Iceland on the implementation of Coaches Education in Iceland.
“Earlier this month the Council of the Athletic Federation of Iceland (ISL) approved the adoption of the IAAF Coaches Education Certification System (CECS) as its programme for coaches’ education.
Following that decision, Ms. Asdis Halla Bragadottir the President of the ISL and Ms. Thordis Gisladottir, Chair of Reykjavik University Sport Science and Physical Education Department (RU), signed an agreement of cooperation in implementing the CECS in Iceland.
According to this agreement RU will provide courses on CECS Levels I and II, for both currently active athletic and future coaches. This agreement will enable the federation, for the first time, to offer quality coaches courses on a systematic basis. Then, the CECS courses on Levels III, IV and V, will be provided by the IAAF.
RU will also use the CECS Level I and Level II material in its Physical Education Teacher’s Programme. Adopting the CECS material falls well into the philosophy of RU providing quality courses for its students and working closely with the community outside the campus.”

Le CECS bientôt opérationnel en Islande – la Fédération nationale islandaise signe un accord avec l'Université de Reykjavik
Au terme de discussions menées au cours de l'année écoulée, le Département des services aux membres de l'IAAF, en coopération avec l'Association européenne d'athlétisme, a accordé à la Fédération islandaise d'athlétisme (ISL) la permission d'adopter les CECS de niveaux 1 et 2 de l'IAAF pour servir de programme national de formation de leurs entraîneurs.
L'ISL a publié le communiqué suivant le 28 mai 2009 :
Concernant l'accord entre l'Université de Reykjavik et la Fédération islandaise d'athlétisme portant sur la formation des entraîneurs en Islande.
"Plus tôt ce mois, le Conseil de l'ISL a approuvé l'adoption du Système de certification de formation des entraîneurs (CECS) de l'IAAF pour servir de programme pour la formation de ses entraîneurs.
Cette décision a donné lieu à la signature d'un accord de coopération par Asdis Halla Bragadottir, présidente de l'ISL et Thordis Gisladottir, directrice de la faculté des sciences sportives et de l'éducation physique de l'Université de Reykjavik. Cet accord vise à faciliter la mise en place du programme au travers du pays tout entier.
Ainsi, l'Université mettra sur pied des stages de CECS de niveaux 1 et 2 à l'attention des entraîneurs d'athlétisme, qu'ils soient déjà en activité ou qu'ils se destinent à un tel rôle. L'accord permettra pour la première fois à la fédération d'offrir de manière systématique des stages de qualité pour la formation d'entraîneurs. Ensuite les stages de CECS de niveaux 3, 4 et 5, seront fournis par l'IAAF.
L'Université va également offrir à ses étudiants suivant le cursus pour devenir enseignants d'éducation physique des matériels pédagogiques du CECS de niveaux 1 et 2. L'adoption des matériels du CECS est totalement en phase avec la philosophie de l'Université de Reykjavik, qui s'astreint à garantir des cours de haute qualité à ses étudiants tout en développant des liens étroits avec la communauté au-delà de son campus."
