IAAF Council confirms leadership of Lamine Diack until 2001

18 November 1999 - Monte Carlo – Shortly after opening its first session this morning, the Council of the IAAF posthumously awarded its late President Dr Primo Nebiolo with the IAAF Golden Order of Merit, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to the development of athletics.

After a discussion of the situation following the death of Primo Nebiolo, IAAF Council decided, unanimously, not to request an extraordinary Congress of the IAAF but to confirm Lamine Diack as acting President of the IAAF until the next IAAF Congress scheduled for Edmonton in 2001. There was also unanimous agreement that Istvan Gyulai continue as IAAF General Secretary until the Edmonton Congress.
