This afternoon IAAF Council concluded its study of all the Rule Change proposals which will be presented to the 46th edition of the IAAF Congress which takes place in Osaka, Japan on 23-24 August, just prior to the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics.
Although 143 proposals to amend IAAF Competition Rules were studied, Council decided to implement one new provision with immediate effect in accordance with its Constitutional powers under Article 6.11c and subject to confirmation by the Congress in Osaka.
The specific rule introduced in Mombasa, which will be numbered Rule 144.2, relates to the use of” technical aids” during competition.
This new rule prohibits:
(e) Use of any technical device that incorporates springs, wheels or any other element that provides the user with an advantage over another athlete not using such a device.
(f) Use of any appliance that has the effect of increasing the dimension of a piece of equipment beyond the permitted maximum in the Rules or that provides the user with an advantage which he would not have obtained using the equipment specified in the Rules.
For all the other Rule Change proposals, Council decided whether to offer its support, or not, to each individual proposal so as to provide guidance for IAAF Congress delegates who will be called on to vote in Osaka. The complete list of Rule Change Proposals with Council’s comments will be sent to IAAF Member Federations by 22 May 2007, three months before the opening of Congress.
IAAF
