Stuttgart, Germany – Stuttgart, Germany – At the "Neues Schloss" in the centre of Stuttgart, on Friday 12 September, the eve of the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, Stuttgart 2008 (13 / 14 September), the IAAF Dinner was hosted by IAAF Senior Vice-President Sergey Bubka.
On the occasion of the third and final edition of the World Athletics Final as part of the current contract to be held in Stuttgart – next year the Final moves to Thessaloniki, Greece – Bubka welcomed 150 guests to the castle which is the official seat of the Government of the German Federal State of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Wolfgang Fröhlich, assistant secretary of Baden-Wuerttemberg, who represented Günther H. Oettinger, Minister President of Baden-Wuerttemberg who was unable to attend, gave the formal reply. Fröhlich on behalf of Oettinger was then presented with an IAAF Plaque to mark the occasion of the Final by Bubka on behalf of the IAAF.
The Lord Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, whose enthusiasm for and encouragement of the hosting of the World Athletics Final in his city is well known, was then also honoured by the IAAF receiving an IAAF Plaque.
Later in the evening formally concluding the dinner Schuster made a speech on behalf of the city of Stuttgart, recounting its history and strong associations with Athletics and sport in general.
Dîner de l’IAAF – Finale mondiale de l’athlétisme IAAF / VTB Bank, Stuttgart 2008
Stuttgart, Allemagne – C’est au "Neues Schloss", dans le centre de Stuttgart, que s’est tenu, le vendredi 12 septembre, le dîner de l’IAAF, la veille de la Finale mondiale de l’athlétisme IAAF / VTB Bank (13 / 14 septembre). Ce dîner a été donné par Sergey Bubka, vice-président senior de l’IAAF.
A l’occasion de la troisième et dernière édition de la Finale mondiale de l’athlétisme organisée à Stuttgart sous les termes du contrat actuel (en 2009 c’est la ville grecque de Thessalonique qui accueillera l’épreuve), M. Bubka a souhaité la bienvenue à 150 invités au château qui est le siège officiel du gouvernement de l’état fédéral allemand de Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Le ministre-président de la région, M. Günther H. Oettinger, retenu, était représenté par Wolfgang Fröhlich, le secrétaire-adjoint de Baden-Wuerttemberg. Ce dernier a prononcé le discours officiel de remerciements avant que Sergey Bubka ne lui remette une plaque de l’IAAF commémorant l’événement à l’attention de M. Oettinger.
Le maire de Stuttgart, Dr Wolfgang Schuster, dont l’enthousiasme pour la Finale mondiale de l’athlétisme et le rôle clé qu’il a joué dans l’organisation de l’épreuve par Stuttgart sont bien connus, a également été honoré d’une plaque remise par l’IAAF.
La soirée a été formellement conclue par un discours donné au nom de Stuttgart par le Dr Schuster, au cours duquel il est revenu sur l’histoire de la cité ainsi que sur les liens très forts qu’elle a tissé tant avec l’athlétisme qu’avec le sport en général.
