IAAF Race Walking Challenge 2007 – substantial prize money, expanded programme

MonteCarloThe IAAF Race Walking Challenge in 2007 begins this coming weekend (10 / 11 March) in Naucalpan, Mexico.

Last year’s programme of five meetings – four individual permit meetings and the IAAF World Race Walking Cup – has been expanded in 2007. There are six individual permit meetings and the inaugural IAAF Race Walking Challenge Final will be held in Saransk, Russia. Also included in the Challenge are the three races of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan.

The IAAF Race Walking Challenge offers substantial prize money that includes prize money for the overall best 8 ranked athletes totalling more than US$200,000, in addition to which a US$150,000 prize purse for each race at the World Championships in Osaka, and significant rewards at each individual permit meeting.

IAAF Race Walk Challenge Permit Meetings:
10 & 11 March - Naucalpan, Mexico
24 & 25 March - Shenzhen, China
14 April - Rio Major, Portugal
1 May - Sesto San Giovanni, Italy
2 June - La Coruna, Spain
23 June - Krakow, Poland

25 August - 2nd September - IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (26 Aug Men’s 20km; 31 Aug Women’s 20km; 1 Sep Men’s 50km)

29 September - IAAF Race Walking Challenge Final, Saransk, Russia


PRIZE MONEY

Overall

The IAAF will provide financial awards to the overall Top-8 ranked Men and Women in the Challenge.**

These awards will amount to US$202,000$ (101,000 for men and women):

1st place: US$30,000
2nd place: 20,000
3rd place: 15,000
4th place: 10,000
5th place: 8000
6th place: 7000
7th place: 6000
8th place: 5000

Athletes are required to participate in a minimum of four competitions to be eligible for the overall awards.

Athletes must also participate in the Final of the IAAF Race Walking Challenge in order to receive the full overall award. Athletes NOT participating in the Final will only receive 50% of the overall awards.


World Championships in Athletics

IAAF World Championship in Athletics, Osaka, Japan, 25th August - 2nd September. The IAAF is providing US$150,000$ per each of the three races – men’s and women’s 20km and men’s 50km:

Individual Race Walk Challenge Permit Meetings

The organisers of each of the six IAAF Race Walk Challenge Permit Meetings and the IAAF Race Walking Challenge Final, Saransk, Russia, will provide a minimum financial awards structure of US$7500:
