World 400 metres Hurdles champion Jana Pittman plans to run in Sunday's heats at the Athens Olympics after undergoing a knee surgery on a torn cartilage.

The 21-year-old Australian sustained the injury to her right knee at the Zurich Golden League meeting on August 6.

She underwent an operation in London on the following day and has been subsequently training at the northern Italian town of Varese.

Australian officials said Pittman had arrived in the Olympic village yesterday (15 Aug).
