Paris, FranceAsafa Powell will miss the IAAF Golden League meeting in Paris on Friday (6) due to a leg injury which he sustained when winning the Jamaican 100m title in Kingston on 23 June. His participation in Rome on 13 July is also said to be unlikely.

The World 100m record holder who aside from the Commonwealth Games title last year in Melbourne has yet to set foot on any major championship medal podium is fully focused on winning gold at the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (25 Aug to 2 Sep).

His manager Paul Doyle confirmed to the IAAF website last week that –

“He (Powell) is not willing to risk anything in Osaka... if he is going to jeopardize his health, which will prevent him from running in Osaka ... then he won't run.”
