Gold MedallistHicham EL GUERROUJ MAR

"I was so excited about this race, I have not been able to sleep for about five days now. I think this might be the happiest day of my life.

"This is my fourth World Championship gold medal. It was very difficult for me with the crowd. I want to dedicate my victory to the Moroccans in Europe.

"I was surprised to see ESTEVEZ lead at the 800m mark, so I decided to take the lead. I extended my stride and took control in my own hands, I do not like to depend on others."

Silver Medallist - Mehdi BAALA FRA

"It is my first medal in world championships. Last year's European Championships were wonderful but this time it is really special with this competition in France. I tried to follow Hicham (EL GUERROUJ) as much as I could but I knew it would be difficult at the end.

"The race tactics was very clear from the beginning on. It was Hicham's race. Of course my biggest dream was to become world champion in France but Hicham did it once more. I have a lot of esteem for him so I am pleased to get on the podium with him.

"I have changed a lot since my daughter was born: now I am much more serene and less stressed out. My family brings me a lot of positive energy. Thanks to them and to the wonderful crowd here"

Bronze Medallist - Ivan HESHKO UKR

"I made sure I had a good position after the sport in the middle of the pack that I tried to protect. The rhythm was fast which wore me out towards the end but I knew I have to maintain my stride if I want to be there at the end.

"I accelerated coming out of the last curve, because I could feel that there was something left in me.

"Before the race I did not dream of being on the podium. I thought finishing around 5th or 6th place was more likely for me.

"I was selected to come here just before the championships, this makes my medal even more precious for me.

"I feel like I am in the best shape of my life."
