IOC President to address Memorial Service - Turin's last farewell on Wednesday

H.E. Juan Antonio Samaranch, the President of the International Olympic Committee is to address the Memorial Service for Dr Primo Nebiolo at the Stadio dei Marmi, Foro Italico, in Rome on Tuesday.

The Memorial service for Dr Nebiolo, who died in the early hours of Sunday, 7 November, will start at 3.00 pm and will include addresses by the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee, Gianni Petrucci and by IAAF First Vice President, Lamine Diack, in addition to that given by the IOC President.

During the course of the ceremony, Juan Antonio Samaranch will present Dr Nebiolo’s widow, Giovanna, with the Gold Olympic Order, the highest honour of the International Olympic Committee, awarded posthumously to Primo Nebiolo in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the Olympic movement and world sport.

The Funeral Mass for Dr Nebiolo will be celebrated in the Church "Sacro Cuore Immacolato di Maria", Piazza Euclide, Rome by H.E. Monsignor Crescenzio Sepe.

The mortal remains of the IAAF President will then be taken to Turin, where his native city will make its final farewell at a religious ceremony that will take place at 11.00 a.m. in the Chiesa della Crocetta.
