Istanbul 2012 - Flash Interviews - Men's 800m First Round

FacebookTwitterEmail

Heat One

First - Antonio Manuel REINA, ESP

The track is fast. I felt great and am excited to qualify for a World Championships semifinal. This effort is part of my road to London. Tomorrow will be a different race.

Second - Adam KSZCZOT, POL

I've not been feeling any stress or pressure before these championships, even though I have the world fastest time this year. The start was fast, I didn't expect that, so I had to get back and take control from the middle of the race and then just stay calm until the finish line.

Heat Two

First - Timothy KITUM, KEN

I started running running three years ago at school (Marakwet Boys). Then, after school, I joined the Defence Forces and now train in Iten with athletes like Gideon Gathimba and Hellen Obiri. This is my second international championships after the World Youth last year where I finished third in the 800m. The most important for me will be to get through the semi-final. After that, anything can happen.

Heat Three

First - Jakub HOLUSA, CZE

I was dreaming about a race like this. Maybe it was one of my best indoor races in my life: I controlled the race from the beginning, I stayed relaxed and self-confident. And I ran the last lap with only 80% of my power - I was even able to accelerate.

Second - Mohammed AMAN, ETH

It was a good race for me. But I did not expect it to be so fast. I did not think that I would have to sprint so hard to qualify.

Third - Ismail Ahmed ISMAIL, SUD

My legs were tired and I could not respond in the sprint. I hope my time will be enough to qualify for the semifinals. I just need to rest now.

Heat Five

First - Jan VAN DEN BROECK, BEL

I am happy I made it through. I trained more relaxed for two months after qualifying for the championships. I am a full time athlete in the Belgian army so I had time to prepare well. Only six will make it to the final. It will be tough but I am in good shape and anything can happen.
