Istanbul 2012 - Flash Interviews - Men's Pole Vault Final

Winner - Renaud LAVILLENIE, FRA

It's been a long time I have been waiting for a big title, and I'm happy that a good performance comes alongside. The competition didn't happen as expected. I did a few mistakes in the beginning but I managed to sort them out and raise the bar. When I cleared 5.95m, I was so relieved. I remembered that I broke my hand three months ago, and the emotion came at once. I did good things at 6m, which is interesting for the future.

Second - Bjorn OTTO, GER

When I did not clear 590 I was angry and disappointed. But I am very happy about my silver medal. My result, my height could have been better, I am not at all satisfied with my result. But with my medal and with my rank. I know that I would have had to do a new PB but even this would not have given me the gold medal. I am satisfied. The reason why I jump so well this season is that - unlike in 2008 and 2010 when I slightly tore my left and right achilles - I was completely healthy this season. All these injuries took some time to heal and now I am without any health problems. And this gives me a lot of security, a lot of confidence. For the summer season, I would like to continue where I will stop after this indoor season. I have a lot of potential. Everything goes like I planned. We will do a training camp in San Diego soon. And my first aim in the summer is to qualify.

Third - Brad WALKER, USA

I am coming back after a couple of injuries, but I have never left the World Championships empty handed. This is my first World Championships medal. I had some good jumps but was inconsistent in others. I cleared 5.80 for gold in 2006 and the same height gave me bronze today. I am happy with my result and I know what I need to sort out between now and London.
