Istanbul 2012 - Flash Interviews - Women's High Jump Qualification Round

I am not really surprised about my SB of 195. The 195 was probably the best jump I ever did in my life. It was hard for me at the beginning because they would allow us only one test jump which is not enough for me. I am used to have three or four. But it got better for me during the competition. About the final - I feel fast and light and the surface here is very good. Let's see what will happen.

Tia HELLEBAUT, BEL

To be a mother and a professional high jumper is not easy. My little girl does not sleep very well and I have to wake up during the nights. We are three high jumpers here in Istanbul with kids, and all of us have only girls! Having children does no longer mean that one has to end one's career. Mentalities have changed, I guess. My husband is here with me and my parents. But my two daughters stayed at home with their nanny. My big girl will watch the competition on TV.

I am not yet at the level I would like to be. For the final I hope that I will have the same feeling for my jumps as I did with my two last jumps here. My run-up is not very consistent at the moment.

First - Anna CHICHEROVA, RUS

Many of us were confused and had to start at a lower height because we only had two warm-up jumps. Not enught time for 21 women. The track is hard for me, but I am happy I am in the final and I aim to jump high enough to win tomorrow. Many of the top women have skipped the winter to prepare for London so the Olympic final will be very interesting.

Third - Antonietta DI MARTINO, ITA

The qualification took very long, more than two hours! It was a little bit chaotic and I fell a little bit asleep between 192 and 195. My problem this year was the weather, the bad weather. I had to cancel a lot of training sessions because of rain or wind - I am training outdoors, you need to know. But now the technique is there! I do not know if I can surprise everybody again like in former championships. Tomorrow is another day and I will think about the final tomorrow. We will see.
