Ivuti leads
Kenyan cross country team to Ostend

13 March 2001 – Nairobi - Patrick Ivuti, the World cross country silver medallist two years ago, will lead Kenya's team to this year's championships in Belgium on March 24-25.
The absence of five-time world cross country champion Paul Tergat makes Ivuti the man to take the mantle.
Ivuti, who has been suffering a bout of malaria, was one of 36 athletes named on Tuesday by the Kenya Amateur Athletic Association (KAAA) for the event.
Ivuti finished 30th during the trials in Nairobi in February due to Malaria, but the KAAA selectors picked him to replace Tergat.
Other athletes included for the men's 12-kilometre race include Charles Kamathi, John Korir and Paul Kosgei.
"All these athletes are capable of winning back the men's senior title in Belgium," head coach Dan Muchoki told AFP from the team's training camp at Kaptagat in Western Kenya.
Helen Kimaiyo, a highly ranked Kenyan marathon performer, is the surprise inclusion in the women's eight-kilometre senior race.
