Jamaican sprinter Juliet Cuthbert, who won two silver medals at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic
Games, has retired after failing to make her country's team for this year's world
championship.
The tearful Cuthbert, 35, made the announcement Sunday after placing fifth in both sprint
events at Jamaica's national trials over the weekend. The trials were held to select a
delegation to the world event August 20 in Seville, Spain.
"This is the end of the road for me,'' said Cuthbert, who made the final of both
sprint races at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where she resides.
Cuthbert enjoyed her best success 1992 when she finished in the runner-up spot to
Americans Gail Devers and Gwen Torrence in the 100-meters and 200-meters, respectively.
