Kenya's 1979 African 800 metres champion James Maina Boi, 50, died on Thursday (15 July) after a long illness.
Boi won the All-Africa Games 800m titles in 1978 in Algiers, and added the continental championship crown in Dakar the following year.
He also took the silver medal in the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.
He came back from semi-retirement to win a silver medal at the 1987 Kenyan veterans' championships.
