The 17th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships will be held at Irbid, about 80 km north of Amman (Jordan) from July 25 to 29, 2007.
Originally scheduled in Beirut (Lebanon), the Championships had to be moved to the Jordanian town as the Lebanese federation withdrew citing unrest in their country.
Irbid, anciently known as Arabella, is the second largest town in Jordan. One of the main business centres in Jordan, Irbid have two important museums and housed several colleges including the Jordaian University of Science and Technology as well as Yarmouk University.
