Juan Manuel de Hoz Bravo passes away

It is with great sadness that the IAAF has received the news today that Juan Manuel de Hoz Bravo, a former President of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) from 1977 to 1988, died yesterday, Sunday 31 August, in Madrid, Spain, aged 79-years-old.

Juan Manuel de Hoz Bravo, a former IAAF Council Member (1984-1999), was a lawyer and a former sprinter, and was President of the Iberoamerican Athletics Association (AIA) from its foundation in 1982 to this year 2008 in which he resigned due to health reasons.

In addition he was an Honorary Member for life of the European Athletics Association (EAA) from 1991 and International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) from 1995.

Juan Manuel de Hoz Bravo remains will be cremated today, Monday 1 September, in La Almudena Cemetery, Madrid at 12:00.

The IAAF offers its sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
