Kamathi aims to retain his title in the Cinque Mulini

1 March 2001The Cinque Mulini, Italy's most prestigious cross-country race, celebrates its 69th edition this Sunday, 4 March.

Kenya’s Charles Kamathi, winner of last year’s edition when he defeated five-time world cross-country champion Paul Tergat, has confirmed his participation as have World cross country champion Mohamed Mourhit (BEL), Portugal’s Paulo Guerra and Ukraine’s Sergey Lebid.

Track specialist Ali Saidi Sief (ALG), who sparkled on last year's Golden League circuit before winning silver at the 5000m Sydney Olympics, will also be one of the favourites.

The women’s field is also highly competitive, with Morocco’s Asmae Leghzaoui, Belgium’s Anja Smolders and Romania’s Constantina Dita the leading favourites.

The race which will be disputed on the testing course of San Vittore Olona and will also be serving as Italy’s national cross-country championships.

The event will be broadcast live by RAI, Italy’s national broadcaster.
