Kenyan double in Venice Marathon

22 October 2000 – Venice, Italy - Kenya dominated the Venice marathon here Sunday, winning both the men's and women's races.

John Bungey triumphed in the men's race with a time of 2hr 9min 49sec, prevailing by 19 seconds ahead of his second placed compatriot Isaac Kiprono (2:10:08). Italy's Roberto Barbi finished third a further three seconds back.

In the women's race it was Ruth Kutol who triumphed in a time of 2:28:16, finishing comfortably ahead of Italian pair Lucilla Andreucci (2:31:29) and Monia Capelli (2:35:59).
