Kenyan XC double, as Italy's junior find takes first senior steps in Sardinia

Daniel Kiprono Limo and Fridah Domongole took the honours at the International Trofeo Regione Sarda Cross Country race in Oristano, Sardinia.

In the men’s 8 km race, Limo crossed the finish-line in 25:39 defeating Italian based Ukrainian Vasyl Matviychuk, 24, the 2003 European U23 Championship 10,000m silver medallist, by five seconds.

The competition also marked by the senior debut of the recently crowned European Junior Cross Country champion Andrea Lalli just one week after his impressive gun-to-tape race win in the continental championships in San Giorgio su Legnano which also led home an Italian junior team win. In Oristano the 19-year-old from the Italian region of Molise ran a brave race finishing in fifth place just one second behind Morocco’s Abdelkebir Lamachi. Lalli was first Italian home holding off seven-time short-course national champion Luciano Di Pardo, who finished in six.
 
Kenyan Fridah Domongole, 22, the 2001 World Youth 3000m bronze medallist, easily the Oristano women’s 6 km race in 21:15 beating Fatna Maraoui, an italian of Moroccan origin who competed for Italy in San Giorgio su Legnano. Third was Kenyan Pamela Anisamuk who finished ahead of compatriot Anne Kosgei.
