Kenyans dominate Paris marathon

8 April 2001 – Paris Kenya's Simon Biwott raced to victory in the 25th Paris marathon here Sunday, crossing the finish line in 2hr 09min 40secs ahead of compatriots David Kirui and Fred Kiprop.

Kirui clocked the same time as 30-year-old Biwott, who was competing in his ninth marathon, with Kiprop only three seconds behind at 2:09.43.

French veteran Mohamed Ezzher, 40, came fourth in 2:10.32 to improve his personal record by 54 secs and thus establish the world's best veteran time.

The Kenyan women continued the pattern set by their compatriots.

Florence Barsosio clocked 2:27:53 to grab the top podium place, with Ruth Kutol one second behind and Romanian Alina Tecuta third in 2:29:16.
