Kenya's John Kemboi wins Kuala Lumpur International marathon

30 April 2000 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -  Kenya's John Kemboi Segero won the men's open category of the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon on
Sunday, clocking 2 hours, 30 minutes, 58 seconds. In second place was Philippine's Allan Ballester with a time of 2:31:07, while Malaysia's K. Baskaran was third with a time of 2:33:25.
In the women's category, Malaysia's Yuan Yufang had an easy task finishing the race in 2:49:28. Indonesia's Ruwiyati came in second with 2:58.43. Many Indonesians use only one name. Third was Thailand's Sunisa Patchara Powgphi who clocked 3:05.00.
The first-place men's open winner took a prize of 12,000 ringgit (dlrs 3,000) and qualified to run in the New York City Marathon in November.
In the women's category, Yufang won 12,000 (dlrs 4,000), while Ruwiyati and Sunisa received 9,000 ringgit (dlrs 2,250) and 6,000 ringgit (dlrs 1,500), respectively. The trio gets a wild-card entry to run in the New York City Marathon.
In the men's veteran category, Hong Kong's Lee Kar Lun won in 2:51:12, followed by Thailand's Samia Karavawong with 2:55:32. Third was Peter Michael Lessing from the Netherlands with a time of 2:56:45.
Sunita Anand Godara of India won in the women's veteran category, clocking 3:34:44. In second place was Malaysia's A. Vasuki (3:38:37), while Kesinee Unsa-Ard of Thailand was third (3:39:03).
