Kenya's Tanui tops Chicago Marathon field

Kenya's Moses Tanui, two-time winner of the Boston Marathon, was among 10 elite athletes added Monday to the field for the Oct. 24 Chicago Marathon.

Tanui won at Boston in 1996 and in 1998 with a career-best time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 34 seconds. He also placed second at Boston in 1995 and fifth in 1997, and was fifth at Chicago in 1998.

Others added to the men's field were Kenya's Sammy Korir, winner of five of his seven marathons; Brazil's Eder Moreno Fialho, sixth in Chicago last year; Kenya's Joseph Kahugu, fourth at Chicago in 1998; and two other Kenyans, Simon Bor and Thabiso Maqholi.

The women include Irina Bogacheva of Kyrgyzstan, Gitte Karlshoj of Denmark, Ornella Ferrara of Italy and Alla Zhilyayeva of Russia.
