World junior Cross Country bronze medallist Moses Kibet defeated double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Moses Kipsiro at the MTN Kampala 10Km, held in conjunction with the annual Marathon on Sunday (5).

Kipsiro who has spent most of his time recently celebrating his double triumph fin India hardly led the fast pack that comprised of eventual winner Kibet, Daniel Rotich and Seyokwo Kibet who broke away from the rest of the field right from the gun.

Kipsiro looked headed for a triumph in the final two kilometers but his dream evaporated as the junior Kibet seized with a beaming pace that left the former champion chasing his shadows.

Kibet was timed at 29:20 to claim his major win over a senior field while Rotich checked in two seconds later while former champion Kipsiro faded into fourth position with a respectable 29:37.

“I have hardly prepared for this race, I have spent most of my time celebrating my Commonwealth triumph but its good for upcoming runners to win,” said Kipsiro.

For Kibet, the win has given him a boost as he prepares to compete at the senior level starting with next year’s World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain.

Kenyan Donald Sambu clocked 2:19:14 to claim the men’s Marathon while the half marathon was won by Ugandan Stephen Kiprotich who was timed at 1:03:22.
