Korzeniowski continues indoor season in Belfast

Poland’s Robert Korzeniowski, triple World and Olympic race walking gold medallist, is set to continue his brief season of indoor competition at the Irish Indoor Championships at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on 14 & 15 February 2004.

Korzeniowski, the World record holder for the 50km Race Walk will compete at the 5000m indoor discipline for the second time this winter after coming second (18:59.2) in Yekaterinburg, Russia on 7 January. The 35 year-old has a personal best for this event of 18:32.09 (1993).

The Pole who is widely acknowledged to be the greatest race walker in history has also competed this winter over 3000m indoors in Mondeville, France on 31 January where he won in a time of 11:09.40.

Korzeniowski’s opposition in Belfast will include top British ranked race walkers such as Daniel King (Colchester) and Andrew Drake (Coventry) along with last year's winner Irishman Robert Heffernan.
