Morocco's Nezha Bidouane, the 1997 400m hurdles World Champion, successfully underwent surgery on her right Achilles’ tendon two weeks ago and is now recovering well.

Her countryman Hicham El Guerrouj, the 1500m World Champion and World Record holder, is also recovering from surgery for a haemorrhoids problem which took him away from the Grand Prix Circuit for three weeks this summer.

IAAF Council Member Nawal El Moutawakel has been named Vice President of the Association "Morocco - 2006 World Cup" and is currently heading a campaign to promote Morocco’s candidature for the 2006 World Cup in football.

Last Thursday, some 20 world class sportsmen and women, including track and field champions Hicham El Guerrouj, Salah Hissou, Nezha Bidouane and Zahra Ouaziz, were named as ambassadors for this candidature
