Gudaf Tsegay heads a strong women's 1500m field announced today by organisers of Lausanne's Athletissima, the eighth stop of the IAAF Diamond League, on 5 July.

The 21-year-old Ethiopian clocked a lifetime best of 3:57.64, the year's second fastest time, to win Stockholm's Diamond League fixture earlier this month, and has also collected recent victories at World Challenge Meeting races in Ostrava and Madrid.

The challengers include Caster Semenya, the world and Olympic 800m champion and world bronze medallist over 1500m last year. The 27-year-old South African improved her lifetime best in her last two appearances over the distance, first to 4:00.71 to take the Commonwealth title on 10 April then again to 3:59.92 to win in Doha.

Laura Muir of Great Britain, the world indoor silver medallist who's collected runner-up finishes in Eugene and Stockholm, will also race. She'll bring a 3:58.53 season's best to the line.

The line-up also includes Shelby Houlihan, the Eugene 1500m winner with a 3:59.06 lifetime best who took the 1500/5000m double at the US championships last weekend, and Moroccan Rababe Harafi, who has a 3:59.51 lifetime best set in Eugene in late May. Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands, the 2016 world indoor champion, was also announced.
