African Junior 5000m and 10,000m champion, Moses Masai took a comfortable victory in the Discovery Cross Country on Sunday (29) in Eldoret, Kenya, while Olympic Games women’s 5000m silver medallist Isabella Ochichi was also an easy winner on Saturday (28) at the Kenya Police Cross Country Championships in Nairobi.

Moses Masai beat a strong field to win the men’s 12km race at the 14th Nike Discovery Kenya Cross Country meeting in Eldoret on Sunday.

Masai, 19, clocked 37:36 to win the race held at the Eldoret Sports Club. Masai stepped into the lead after the first half of the race and held on to the finish. A group of athletes, who included Simon Kiprop, Robert Cheruiyot, the former Boston Marathon champion, and Wilson Chebet, tried to catch-up after failing to react when Masai, who was seventh in the junior race at last year's World Cross Country Championships, finally unleashed the 'killer' kick which saw him win the race.

Kiprop finished second in 37:49 and Chebet was third in 38:01, ahead of Paul Langat who was fourth in 38:08. Cheruiyot finished in fifth place in 38:20. Other big names included Ernest Meli, who finished eighth in 38:40.

Gladys Chemweno took the honours in the junior women's 6km race with a time of 21:37. She was followed home in the second place by Pauline Korkwang (22:07) with Pamela Lisoreng third in 22:14. Jebichi Yator (23:14) and Sheila Chepkurui (23:23) were fourth and fifth respectively.

Kenya Police

World Cross Country women's short course bronze medallist Isabella Ochichi, easily won the senior women's race at the Kenya Police Cross Country Championships in Nairobi on Saturday (28).

Ochichi was timed in 29:29. Sarah Kebaso, clocked 30:31 for second, and Miriam Wangare was third in 30:46.
