30 May 2000 – Moscow - Double Olympic champion Svetlana Masterkova will limit her appearances on the international outdoor circuit this year to concentrate on her build-up for the Sydney Games.

"She is definitely going to miss those events not to risk her possible success at Sydney and we expect her to run in the 800 and 1500 metres," Russia's athletics coach Valery Kulichenko said on Tuesday.

Kulichenko said Masterkova underwent an operation last November on the Achilles tendons of both feet and that she would race mainly in domestic events in the build-up to the Olympics.

Masterkova is now in the northern city of St. Petersburg running in local events before she travels to Moscow to continue training and undergo medical checks.

Russia's Olympic track and field team will stay in the eastern city of Vladivostok, in the same time zone as Sydney, from September 1 to 15 before flying to Australia for the Olympics.
