Gold Medallist - Karsten KOBS (GER)
"Winning feels good. Winning the championship feels especially good! I guess this won't be the last major win for me. I have trained intensely and now everything has succeeded. I didn't have any real problems but the competition was certainly not easy. I felt tired in my legs but it's no wonder since the competition started so late in the day. Everyone of us can throw well earlier in the evening but this is just too late.It was a fight against time. To win with my first throw was a surprise as I'm normally better later in the competition. Jurgen Schult (GER) told me they would throw me in the water if I won. So i told him I'm going to do it myself which is why I jumped into the steeplechase water pool.
Silver Medallist - Zsolt NEMETH (HUN)
"I was not happy with my technique. It was hard to get it right in this weather. I was also nervous but then again I'm sure everybody was the same in this respect, as there were seven throwers within one and half metres of each other. I have been taught long ago that the last throw must be the one that counts, the biggest! If you look at the history, this is a Hungarian tradition in the hammer. This was the first time this season that I have achieved this big last throw. In my opinion Gecsek (HUN) should have won today, he is so much more powerful than I am."
Bronze Medallist - Vladislav PISKUNOV (UKR)
"The timetable for both the qualification and the final was wonderful. I have no complaints with the schedule. It caused me no problems at all. This stadium is brilliant, it is the best I have thrown in. I am also more than satisfied with my Nordic hammer. For me it was a little strange that the hungarians didn't perform as well as I expected they would. They areeither concentrating on the Olympics or they put too much into their national championships performances and perhaps peaked too early."
No me causo ningun problema.
