Men Octathlon Shot Put (5Kg) Youth

Ukraine's Vadym Boychuk dominated this third event of the men's Octathlon. Laying down the gauntlet with an opening throw of 16.68, Boychuk backed this up with a 17.27 heave at his second attempt (worth a weighty 930 points), already over a metre better than the next best thrower in Group A, Russian Vasiliy Kharmalov, who moved up into second place after a third round throw of 16.21 (864 Points).

Silva was holding his own at this point of the competition as the third best performer in the group, with 14.76 metres, at his second throw, which he failed to improve further, but which was enough to earn him 775 points. He was then overtaken in the group by Tomasz Drasiewicz from Poland, who put his shot out to 15.13 metres with his final attempt (798 points).

Meanwhile, in Group B, headed by USA's Dan Kinsey with 15.45 metres (817 points) Lukas Patera strengthened his points total with 809 points from a third round heave of 15.31 metres. Also in Group B, Benjamin Chevrol threw 14.63 metres for 767 points.

After three events, Patera still heads the field with 2527 points, with Silva in 2nd with 2477 and Chevrol in 3rd with 2428. Adam Fretwell (USA) with 2344 points follows close behind and he is tailed by Vadim Boychuk, whose sterling performance in the shot put takes him to a total of 2341 points.
