GOLD MEDALDennis Chepkongin MASAI (KEN) 27:53.88 (World Junior Lead)
I’m so happy being number one in the world, it’s nice having Ethiopians and Ugandans [in the race]. I’m feeling so happy.
Challenges – you know, my partner, he had a stitch. It was not going well, what we were planning. We were running as a team.
You know, I am so happy running.
For now, I’m preparing for Commonwealth [Games]. I’m so happy – of course! It has given me morale. You have to be happy!
SILVER MEDAL - Gebretsadik ABRAHA (ETH) 28:03.45
The race was very competitive. Because I was alone with the two Kenyans, I couldn’t do any better. There was also some pushing, but I did my best and I thank God.
Once three of us remained, I knew I was running for second place, especially when I got stitches with six laps to go.
They were trying to drop me and took off alone but I used all my strength to overcome that challenge, and second place is a great honor for me and it’s my first time.
[The former World Junior Champion] Haile Gebrselassie is still running and I believe I can follow in his footsteps if I work hard.
BRONZE MEDAL - Paul Kipchumba LONYANGATA (KEN) 28:14.55
Yes, I'm happy. I did it.
The race was not bad. I had something of a stitch.
(Having two Kenyan medallists) is good. It is good.
Fourth place - Mohammed AHMED (CAN) 29:11.75
That was a very tough race. I got fourth and I got lapped. It just shows that they are very fit and very strong athletes and I still have a long way to go to be at the top of the world. I lead the second pack for a very, very long time and I was very tired but I had to give everything I had
It was a great crowd and my name was being yelled out all over the place and that really encouraged me and made my mind forget about the pain that I was going through. I’m happy with it.
13th Place - Andrew NIXON (CAN) 30:35.43
I feel pretty good right now. It’s my first competition on the world stage and I’m happy with how I performed. It was a good effort. The time just didn’t come tonight. I didn’t really know how fast everyone was moving out there, the rest of the packs. When I saw Mo (Mohammed Ahmed) leading the chase pack I thought that’s probably a little bit too fast for me so I just hung back a bit. But the next time I’ll be right up with him.
The crowd was great. You could always hear someone calling out to you and I wasn’t expecting so many people to know my name and that was really nice.
