18yearolds Xiangdong Bo and Zhengyu Huang completed a one-two finish for China in the men’s 10,000m Race Walk final in 42:50.26 and 43:13.29 respectively here in Beijing.
Yusuka Suzuki of Japan completed the Asian domination of the event with a 43:45.62 bronze medal performance.
Early race leader and World Youth champion last year in Marrakesh Sergey Morozov of Russia collapsed to the floor when he still had one lap to go his quest for a medal long gone.
Morozov and Bo were solidly in the lead when Suzuki caught up with the leading duo with 14 laps to go. The three men went through the halfway mark in 21:29.99 taking turns at the front.
Bo decided it was time to walk away from his opponents with nine and a half laps to go, his tempo quickly leaving Morozov 10 metres adrift and Suzuki another 10 metres behind.
In the meantime, Huang started to make a move and gradually progressed through the field until he claimed the second position with five laps to go. Zuzuki was somehow holding onto to bronze while Morozov was struggling to keep his composure.
Bo was never to be caught and his gold medal was secured as he crossed the line an ecstatic winner. He waited for his countryman before the duo embarked on a well deserved lap of honour.
Huang and Morozov crossed the line simultaneously but while it meant silver for the Chinese, there was still one lap to go for the Russian whose legs definitely gave way. He was stretched out of the track unable to complete his race.
