Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku led from the gun in the men's 1500m final to bring the title back to Kenya. Ndiku's 3:37.30 PB brought him Kenya's eighth men's 1500m title in thirteen runnings of the final.

Ndiku bolted to the lead at the gun, followed by Mohammad Al-Garni of Qatar and Mohamed Bensghir of Morocco. As they arrived at the homestretch, Al-Garni stumbled slightly as though he'd been pushed, but regained his stride immediately and fell in behind Bensghir in the long single file which had formed behind Ndiku.

The 400m split for Ndiku was a scorching 55.89, explaining why the field was stretched out over 40m of single-file milers behind him. They passed the 800m split in 1:55.33, still in the identical line, and though Ndiku seemed to back off slightly with 600m remaining, as though to gather himself for the long finishing drive, the order did not change.

Ndiku reached the bell in 2:42.07 and the 1200m mark in 2:56.46, and it was clear now that he was in full flight. Behind him, Al-Garni made his bid to move up, passing the failing Bensghir on the backstretch and doing his best to chase Ndiku.

Ndiku was pulling away, however, and nobody else would lead this race. Instead it was Abderrahmane Anou, who had been running fourth in the file throughout the race, who picked off first Bensghir and then Al-Garni at the line, taking silver in 3:38.86 and leaving Al-Garni the bronze in 3:38.91.
