Men's 200m Semi Finals - Flash Interviews

FacebookTwitterEmail

Wayde VAN NIEKERK (RSA) 1st in HEAT 1 - 21.05

I felt good but I think I can do better.  I need to run under 21 seconds in the final.

Aaron BROWN (CAN) - 2nd in HEAT 1 - 21.12

I thought I did a pretty good job on the bend. Coming off the bend, I lost a little bit of ground. I’ll have to work on that a little bit. But I think I held myself through the end and I was able to make it through to the final.

I didn’t know where (Bradwell)  was I just prayed, hoped I got through and I came through.

My start was okay. Definitely a lot better than the 100 metre final. I can still improve on it, so I’ll go work on that a bit.

Hopefully I can get my body feeling a whole lot better, because I’m pretty sore from the 100 metre rounds and earlier today in the 200 metre. If I can get a good massage, eat right and sleep well, I think I can do pretty good iin the finals.

Aliaksandr LINNIK (BLR) - 1st in HEAT 2 - 20.81 (National Junior Record)

I had a very good race, fantastic - a personal best. I was very nervous, very nervous to get into the final. But it wasn’t too hard, I feel very fit and I have strength enough to do more tomorrow.

Shota IIZUKA (JPN) - 1st in HEAT 3 - 20.93

I’m really happy that I won that race.

At one point in the race, coming down the homestretch, it looked like everybody was even and it was a challenge because it was hard to tell where the other competitors were.

[For the finals], I’ll just continue to do the same thing and I’ll never give up - just do the same thing that I did in this race.

Oluwasegun MAKINDE (CAN)  4th in HEAT 3 - 21.13

My first 150 metres, I felt good.  I maybe let things get into my head, maybe I trained a little too hard instead of relaxing.  Coming in fourth kind of sucks but maybe I’ll make it in on time.

I have the 110 m hurdles in the morning to look forward to and the 4 X 100 metre relay heat in the afternoon to look forward to.

It’s a great honour to be named team captain.  I feel really blessed and humbled.  For me to be selected by my peers as well as the coaching staff is a great honour and I hope to perform and do my best.
