Andrey Azarenkov of Russia took the men’s Hammer Throw World Junior title with a 74.11 third round effort here in Grosseto as runner-up Mohsen El Anany of Egypt made history as he became the first man from his country to win a medal in an athletics global championship.

Azarenkov’s opening round of 73.88m killed the competition as the Russian’s effort was almost one metre longer than El Anany’s best mark of 72.98m which also came in round three.

The bronze medal went to Germany’s Kamilius Bethke whose best throw was an effort of 71.91m, also in round three!

Silver medallist in Sherbrooke 2003 World Youth Championships Kristof Nemeth of Hungary had to be content with fourth as his best throw on the day was a disappointing 71.40.
