Men's Pole Vault - Qualification round

FacebookTwitterEmail

The qualification standard for the Pole Vault was set at 5.15 metres or at least the best twelve qualified. With just twelve athletes remaining in the competition with the bar set at 5.05 metres, the men’s Pole Vault qualification was halted at this height.

Two athletes had completely clear rounds to this bar: Benjamin Renaudeau of France and Sweden’s Jesper Fritz. Joining them in the Final notably will be the reigning World Youth Champion German Chiariviglio from Argentina, who recorded a failure at his first attempt at 5.05 before sailing over the bar at his second try.

Chiariviglio starts as hot favourite for the final with a personal best of 5.51 metres along with China’s Feiliang Liu, who struggled through the qualification series with failures at 4.80, 4.95 and 5.05, which he cleared at his third attempt, belying his PB of 5.55 metres and Greece's Konstadinos Filippidis, who boasts a 2004 PB of 5.41.
