race favourite Sabrina Mockenhaupt made no mistake when taking the title at the German Cross Country Championships in Ingolstadt, Germany on Saturday (14).

The 28-year-old clocked 17:27 for the 5.1km distance and was well ahead of Susanne Hahn (18:06). Julia Hiller came in third with 18:14.

Susanne Hahn had been Germany’s strongest competitor in a number of World Cross Country Championships, but this season she concentrates more on road running. Hahn was unable to respond to Mockenhaupt’s pace in Ingolstadt. Her aim is to qualify for the marathon of the World Championships in Berlin. So she prepares for the Düsseldorf Marathon on 3rd May. Sabrina Mockenhaupt’s next race will be the Berlin Half Marathon on 5th April.

Arne Gabius lead the men’s 10.1km race from the start and won with 32:29. He was well ahead of Sebastian Hallmann (32:50), who was nominated for the World Championships in Amman. Stephan Hohl took third place with 32:58. A week after placing fourth in the European Indoor 1500m final Wolfram Müller won the 3.1km race in 9:12 from Christoph Lohse and Carsten Schlangen (both 9:21).
