MonteCarloThe IAAF has noted the message issued by the US Embassy in Nairobi on 5 March, advising US citizens of the possibility that the 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, 24 March 2007, Mombasa, Kenya could be the target of disruption by activists or even a terrorist attack.

Since the health and well being of all participants at our competitions is always our number 1 priority, contact was made this morning with representatives of the Kenyan Government and we have received an assurance that a specific security plan, involving all branches of the country’s military and police authorities, is already in place to protect all athletes and participants during their stay in Kenya.

We would like to reassure all those who are planning to travel to Kenya that every effort is being made by the Kenyan authorities, in close co-operation with the IAAF, to ensure a peaceful and successful competition.
