MonacoMonaco is among Bernard Lagat’s favourite tracks and the 2007 World Championships 1500m and 5000m double gold medallist is looking to keep his close relationship with the local audience alive at the Herculis 2010 - Samsung Diamond League - meeting on Thursday.

His affection for the meeting is such that he has even brought the rest of his family along with him this year – his wife Gladys, his livewire four-year-old son Miika and his 20-month-old daughter Gianna – to savour the atmosphere and watch him run over 1500m at the Stade Louis II.

Home is where the heart is

“Running in Monaco has been a very important part of my career. I came here not long after I won the World University Games title in 1999 and I ran my first 3:30 (in fact, 3:30.61). After that, I ran 3:27 (3:27.91) and also won at World Athletics Finals, so I have the feeling I’m coming home, it’s a nice atmosphere,” commented Lagat on Wednesday (21).

“It always seems to be a fast race for me as well. The track is very good for middle distance running, I’ve heard there have been some changes to the track this year so I’m sure they are for the better, it’s always exciting coming back to Monaco.”
