Zagreb, CroatiaSeveral preWorld championships world leaders and strong medal contenders will be heading to Zagreb at month's end, organisers of the Croatian capital's meeting have announced.

The Zagreb 2009 meeting on 31 August is a Grand Prix status meeting as part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2009.

The hurdles events are the traditional centerpiece of the meeting, and this year will be no exception. 110m Hurdles Olympic champion and World record holder Dayron Robles, previously announced, will face American David Oliver, the Olympic bronze medallist. In the women's sprint hurdles, Olympic champion Dawn Harper will go up against her American compatriot Lolo Jones.

Both 400m Hurdles races will feature strong Berlin medal contenders. In the women's race, world leader Lashinda Demus will lead the field while the men's race includes former World champion Bershawn Jackson who'll face L.J. van Zyl of South Africa and rising Jamaican star Isa Phillips.

There will be a fierce battle on tap in the men's Shot Put, with Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski of Poland taking on Americans Reese Hoffa and Christian Cantwell.

There will be at least two other Olympic throws championships in field, with American Stephanie Brown Trafton topping the women's discus event while Slovenia's Primoz Kozmus, the Olympic champion in the Hammer Throw, facing World leader and Berlin favourite Krisztian Pars of Hungary.

But as far as the locals are concerned, the premiere event will of course be the women's High Jump, featuring reigning World champion Blanka Vlasic and Olympic bronze medallist Anna Chicherova. In the Triple Jump, long-time rivals Tatyana Lebedeva and Yargelis Savigne will face off.
