Musyoki and Arusei take Würzburg 10K wins

Würzburg 10K race, one of a few German highclass events at this distance, was won by Patrick Makau Musyoki on Sunday afternoon in a time of 28:15 minutes. The Kenyan finished four seconds ahead of Matthew Koech. Benjamin Serem finished third with 28:40. Kenyans took the first ten places in Würzburg.

In warm and windy weather conditions organisers had hoped for a much quicker winning time although the course is not an easy one. But the first kilometre virtually ruined these plans since that was run in much too fast 2:39. The pace then settled. And it was not until the last kilometre when the favourite, Musyoki, increased the pace and broke away. The 22-year-old had recently been timed with 27:27 minutes at the 10K point of the Berlin Half Marathon which he went on to win in 58:56.

It was all Kenya in the women’s race as well. Peninah Arusei broke away from Flomena Chepchirchir at about half way to win unchallenged in 32:45. Alice Mogire was second in 33:00 while Chepchirchir took third with 33:18.
