Reigning World Junior 100m champion Dexter Lee completed the sprint double at Jamaica’s Junior Championships at GC Foster College on Sunday.

Lee, who won the 100m World title in Bydgoszcz, Poland two years ago, first ran away with the short sprint on Saturday in 10.20, a World junior leading and personal best time. It was the third time Lee, a professional, is running 10.20 this season, having done it twice at the IAAF Challenge Meeting in Ostrava last month.

Like he did in the 100m when he beat Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.61), Lee, running from lane two in the 200m, secured another big victory - 20.86 to Brandon Tomlinson’s 21.60.

In the girls’ Under-20 sprints, Seidatha Palmer (11.79) took the 100m ahead of Diandra Gilbert (11.82), who returned to win the 200m in 24.19 ahead of Yanique Ellington (24.20), the third place finish in the 100m at 11.84.

Jermaine Gayle (47.20) beat Javere Bell (47.40) for the boys’ Under-20 400m crown while Janieve Russell (53.70) beat Ristananna Tracey (53.97) in the girls’ equivalent.

Natoya Goule ran 2:09.51 to take the girls’ Under-20 800m while Kemoy Campbell was the top finisher in the boys’ Under-20 1500m (3:49.37) and 5000m (14:31.38).

Tracey had earlier won the 400m Hurdles in 48.16 ahead of World Youth silver medallist Danielle Dowie (59.88).

In the field, Chad Wright accounted for the meet’s only national record, throwing the Under-20 boys shot put 18.87m to add to his 61.07m discus crown from the first day. World Youth bronze medallist, Travis Smikle, threw 56.21m for second in the discus field.

In the girls’ events, Candicea Bernard threw 45.14m to turn the table on Sasha Gaye Marston, the Carifta Games champion, with 44.80m.

Russell was the winner of the girls’ Under-20 long jump, leaping 6.20m while Rochelle Farquharson with 12.36m took the triple jump.

Kimberly Williamson won the girls’ Under-20 high jump with a clearance of 1.75m.

In the Under-17 section, Odean Skeen was the boys’ sprint double winner. Skeen ran 21.93 to add the 200m on Sunday to his 10.80m 100m run.

Lennox Williams took the boys’ Under-17 400m in 49.16secs.

On the girls’ side, Kedisha Dallas (12.26) beat Saqukina Cameron (12.31) in the 100m final.

Cameron was also beaten in the 200m, losing out to Shericka Jackson, but both were given the same time of 24.57.

Chris-Ann Gordon won the 400m in 54.69 ahead of Olivia James 54.83. Carla Thompson (2:15.25) and (4:49.00) won the 800/1500 double, beating Sanikee Gardener (2:15.85) and (4:49.53) on both occasions.

Mega Simmonds took the 100m hurdles in 14.55 while Claudette Allen was victorious in the 300m hurdles in 44.87.

Jamaica junior athletes are preparing for the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada (July 19-25) and the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships from July 2-4 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
