Senegal’s Triple Jump specialist Kene Ndoye, has been confirmed as the top Senegalese sports person of 2003 in a vote carried out by national and international sports journalists.

After the votes were counted Ndoye won the “Golden Lion” with 93 points placing her ahead of World Junior Karate champion Abdoulaye Diop and former World 400m champion Amy Mbacké Thiam, who both finished with the same number of points (81).

Ndoye had a sensational season in 2003 taking the women's Triple Jump bronze at the World Indoor championships in Birmingham, 10th place in the outdoor World Championships in Paris, and the gold medal in the All-Africa Games in Abuja.

In 2004, the 25 year-old whose talent was nurtured at the IAAF’s High Performance Centre in Dakar, is aiming at the Athens Olympics and the African Championships in Brazzaville.

The award of Merit and Excellence was awarded to Lamine Diack in recognition of his role as an international sports leader, reflecting his re-election this summer as the IAAF President.

All the awards and honours were given at a ceremony presided over by the Senegalese Head of State.
