NEWS FLASH – 14:11.15 - Dibaba smashes World 5000m record in Oslo! - ÅF Golden League 2008

Oslo, Norway  21:05hrsDouble World 10,000m champion Tirunesh Dibaba has in the last five minutes at this evening’s ExxonMobil Bislett Games, the second meet of the ÅF Golden League 2008, completed a demolition job on the World 5000m record of her compatriot, the World and Olympic 5000m champion Meseret Defar.

Defar’s record of 14:16.63 which she set at this meeting on 15 June last year, was knocked out of sight by Dibaba who broke the tape in an astonishing 14:11.15 which subject to the usual ratification procedures, is a new World record.

1:42.69 - World Junior record in 800m for Kaki

21:35hrs - In the last few minutes, World Indoor champion Abubaker Kaki set a World Junior record* of 1:42.69 in the men's 800m.
