Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva set yet another women’s World Indoor Pole Vault record at this evening's “Gaz de France du Pas-de-Calais” - IAAF indoor permit - meeting, with a first time clearance at 4.89m.

Isinbayeva’s leap gave the 22-year-old female World Athlete of 2004 the twelfth World record (indoors & out) of her career, incidentally it was her third World Indoor record of the current season.

Failing on her first attempt at her opening height of 4.60, the Olympic champion passed and moved on to 4.70, which she cleared on her first approach. She then proceeded to clear 4.80 with much aplomb, also on her first try.

The bar was then raised to 4.89, and Isinbayeva cleared the new World Indoor record height (she had set 4.88m in Birmingham on 18 Feb) with such ease, that in a swell of confidence she immediately asked for the bar to be raised to 5.05m (yes, 5.05!), and had a good, though not close stab at what would have been an extraordinary piece of sporting history.

Isinbayeva earned a 15,000 euro bonus for the record.

Monica Pyrek of Poland was second with 4.70m.
