Ngeny leads Kenyan team to world indoor championships

1 March 2001 - Olympic 1500 metres gold medallist Noah Ngeny will spearhead Kenya's medal challenge at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Lisbon next week.

Ngeny was among a seven-strong Kenyan squad named for the championships, which takes place from March 9-11, athletics officials said.

Ngeny is world number one over 1500 metres indoors and holds the fastest time over 1000 metres. Ngeny will run the 1500m.

Leah Malot, who is also a member of the Kenyan team to the world cross country championships in Dublin, is the only woman entrant.
